to bare or not to bare…

I have to admit that at the first hint of warmer weather I want nothing more than to shed the layers I’ve been cocooning under all winter. But, well my legs may need some TLC before that happens. Not to mention that I don’t feel as confident in short styles as I used to. It  isn’t that I feel women over a certain age should stay away from total leg bearing it’s just that I for one would rather not. Unless I’m on the beach of course!

Afterall…if I can achieve the same thing in a pencil skirt why not go for it in a way that suits me much better.

plaid skirt…

This season we continue to see plaid/tartan in key pieces like skirts, pants, and of course coats and jackets. I’ve posted about plaid before so clearly I have a thing for it. I can’t help it…I love how it punches up any outfit taking it from ordinary to something special.  I love the pencil skirt for so many reasons. It looks so refined on almost any body type (proportion is key) and it never goes out of style. Check out this look…

white on…

I knew as soon as I saw this picture of Victoria Beckham that oversizing was still a thing. Here everything she’s wearing is of course from her own collection but all you really have to do is wear a sweater that is designed to look  oversized over a skirt (or pants) that are designed to look like they are too big. But, be careful as this look can very easily go wrong. It can look sloppy and unkempt…or like you recently lost a whole lotta weight. I’m just saying. But, done right it really is a great look. When wearing this look you have to be very careful of proportion. Shoulder seams can’t fall too far past your natural shoulders. Sleeves can’t be too wide or rolled up too much. Basically, if it looks like you bought it in the men’s Big & Tall department take it off. Here are a couple more inspirational looks…

new year…

I really love this dress by Fendi. Although it has a neckline that is deeper than I usually wear I’m thinking a pendant can give me some coverage. Also, it’s a bit shorter than I like but flats rather than heels may work better for me. I can also wear opaque black tights if I want. This is a dress that I can work with.

tights or pants?…

I know that there has been a lot of talk lately about wearing tights as pants. Personally, I think we should wear what we want. These sequin pants from BCBG are so comfy that they can be worn sooooo many different ways. I love the holiday feel that they give at this time of year.
